Nestled in the picturesque, narrow alleyways of Acre, the Efendi Hotel overlooks the historic city walls and the magnificent Mediterranean Sea. Two ancient houses, each with hundreds of years of history stored within their walls, were combined to form the unique structure of this hotel. Meticulously reconstructed and merged into one building, they were then converted into a beautiful boutique hotel.
Each room in the hotel is fully equipped and designed with its own unique style and character. THE STORY
The Efendi hotel is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream long held by Uri Jeremias, chef, and proprietor of the famed Uri Buri restaurant. Complex preservation and restoration work over a period of eight years brought about this breathtaking pearl of a hotel, a true labor of love. Each and every detail of the preservation work was performed under the supervision of the Antiquities Authority and artisans were specially flown in from Italy to undertake the delicate work of restoring the unique ceilings of the building. One of the most amazing aspects that was found at the site is a stunning fresco (mural) of the city of Istanbul dating back to 1878. It was originally created in honor of the new Orient Express train station in the area.
Efendi was the title of the wealthy Ottoman rulers of the 19th century, famous for living in magnificent and extravagant villas. In the past, the two houses that created this hotel were both Efendi residences, beautiful and stylish , a testament to Acre’s unique history and diverse cultural background.
